Student Engagement is an Overused Cliche
Since the 1970s higher education professionals have been publishing scholarly works on the importance of student involvement. In 1969 Kenneth Feldman and Theodore Newcomb published their landmark work, The Impact of College on Students, and in the next decade several publications and studies extolled the virtues of engaging students in their own growth, education and development.
Providing meaningful opportunities for students to engage with their education community provides a myriad of benefits to their education, growth, development and significant benefits to the educational institution. Institutions spend
hundreds of thousands of dollars creating an environment where students are engaged in social, cultural, training, environmental and academic-discipline specific activities that attracts new students, retains existing students, improve
student outcomes, and positively increases academic attainment.
We assist individual colleges/universities to identify specific strategies that contribute to the mission, mandate and vision of that institution. The following list is a starting point for discussion to best address “living the brand” with the institution.
Lets Discuss…
- Aboriginal Student mentorship
- Academic discipline-specific activities
- College-community service
- Business/industry mentorship
- Student clubs and engagement programs
- Student Ambassador programs
- Recreation & sports
- Cultural initiatives
